Last week I wrote about what Nestle is calling the First Comprehensive Nutrition System for Babies (when really WE have the real first comprehensive nutrition system for babies right on our chests) and decided NOW is the time for me to boycott Nestle.

Why Boycott Nestle?

This is not about a mother’s ‘right’ to choose how she feeds her baby, this is not about being anti-formula. If you feed your baby formula now, in the future, or have done in the past, I am not attacking you. This is an attack on Nestle, the largest producer of infant formula in the world, whose products contribute to the unnecessary suffering and deaths of babies of poor families.

The reason most people boycott Nestle is that they are a highly unethical company when it comes to promoting their infant formula products. In third world countries where women can not afford to buy formula, Nestle reps visit hospitals handing out free samples, or they pay doctors, nurses and midwives to promote their products to new and expectant mothers. When these women leave hospital they are unable to safely prepare the formula and are often unable to afford to buy more, so water it down to make it last longer. Nestle’s packaging and marketing violates the International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes, and their latest product doesn’t even prepare formula at a safe temperature as recommended by the World Health Organisation.

I found the Nestle Boycott List from Baby Milk Action, but on closer inspection of the Nestle New Zealand website, found there are some brands sold in New Zealand that aren’t included on the BMA list.
